Chile's Fisheries and Aquaculture Undersecretariat (Subpesca) is urging salmon producers to strengthen hygiene measures to protect workers and update contingency plans in the face of a spate of fish mortality events.

The move is part of ongoing dialogue with the sector during the coronavirus health crisis.

Since the onset of the crisis Chile's government, led by President Sebastian Pinera, has taken a number of measures to try to prevent the spread of the virus, including imposing sanitary cordons around certain areas in the country and a nightime curfew.
