Firda Seafood Group is planning a 6,000 metric ton capacity hatchery to grow its salmon up to one kilo on land before releasing into sea cages.

"Like so many others, we want to reduce the time in the sea by putting out larger fish," said Internal Control and Quality Manager at Firda Seafood Lina Braanaas Utne.

The company has already worked for two years to put in place everything needed for the application to Norway's Water Resources and Energy Directorate including regulation of the area and agreements with landowners for access to water.
