Boom and bust cycles, bankruptcy and lack of marketing have in recent years converged to dismantle Greece’s pole position in the Mediterranean aquaculture industry.

Production has fallen to just under 105,000 metric tons, and 90 percent of that is sold unbranded.

But Greece’s new aquaculture body, the Hellenic Aquaculture Producers’ Organization (HAPO), has plans to bring the Greek aquaculture industry back to its prime, according to a presentation given by its new marketing manager, Ismini Bogdanou at last week’s North Atlantic Seafood Forum.
