Some local Norwegian politicians welcome a salmon tax, but fractures emerge over how to divide up the spoils

The Norwegian government proposal to raise tax rates on larger salmon and trout farming companies by 40 percent is sparking divergent reactions among political parties in the country, both on the state and regional levels.

Ida Pinnerod, the mayor of Bodo in northern Norway and a member of the Labor Party, hailed the tax and its benefits to rural communities.

“This is redistribution in action, especially at a time when the need is great," Pinnerod told IntraFish. "There is a war economy in Europe, inflation and increased energy costs for more and more people.”
