Scottish salmon farmers are sticking firmly to their line that land-based salmon production is a non-starter for the nation's producers, although they are open to considering other practices to modernize operations.

Land-based developments such as the Atlantic Sapphire Bluehouse site in Miami will definitely have a place in the future of salmon production, just not in Scotland, Tavish Scott, CEO of producers trade body Salmon Scotland told IntraFish.

"I don't see [as you described it] the pure on-land farms happening in Scotland because those seem to me to be going to happen near big centers of populations, in other words near big cities where there are huge consumer markets," Scott said.
