Faroese salmon farmer Bakkafrost has issued a statement seeking to distance itself from the internationally decried massacre of 1,500 dolphins in the Faroe Islands earlier this month.

"Bakkafrost condemns this episode and finds it totally unacceptable," wrote CEO Regin Jacobsen in a specially prepared statement posted to the company's website.

"We confirm that Bakkafrost had no involvement and none of Bakkafrost's assets were used."

Even the staunchest defenders of traditional whaling in the Faroe Islands have condemned the “cruel and unnecessary” massacre of the dolphin superpod, which was driven into shallow waters and left writhing for hours before being killed, reports The Guardian.
