Thousands of farmed salmon are on the lose after a fire broke out at Firda Seafood's farm at Gulen in Sogn og Fjordane, Norway.
About 190,000 fish were in the cages, of which 119,000 with an average weight of 490 grams are now missing. The reason for the fire is yet to be determined, but the police is excluding a criminal reason, it told Norwegian newspapers.
Parts of a cage ring was destroyed by heat, the company said Friday.
CEO Carl-Erik Arnesen apologized for the incident, adding measures to retrieve the escaped salmon were initiated straight away.
