Cermaq has launched iFarm, enabling what it refers to as individual-based fish farming.

The system has computer vision, which recognizes each individual salmon based on its dot pattern. In a sensor chamber, the number of fish, fish size, number of sea lice, and possible signs of the disease are registered, allowing each fish to be treated separately.

"There will be huge gains if growth can be channeled to the sites of the current type," said Cermaq CEO Geir Molvik. "This growth strategy will preserve and strengthen Norway's advantage as salmon producer within the current site structure.
