French smoker and processor MerAlliance’s plan to build a land-based salmon farm in France has been put on hold following its acquisition by Thai Union Frozen Products (TUF) in September last year.
MerAlliance announced plans to build its own onshore salmon farm in Brittany last March in a bid to have its own supply of “high quality” raw materials.
However, since the acquisition, it is unclear as to the future of the farm.
Gilles Charpentier, CEO of MerAlliance, told IntraFish the project was currently at “press button” stage and ready to go, but now TUF need to consider the plans and where it will fit in the business, “which is a slow process.”
