CAISTER'S independent lifeboat station's Valentijnclass boat was officially named by Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall at the end of last month. The ceremony was the royal couple's first official engagement in Norfolk.

After naming the vessel Bernard Matthews II, the prince and duchess witnessed a demonstration of the vessel's speed and abilities. The lifeboat is waterjet-propelled and reaches 37 knots. She is one of the fastest and most up-to-date lifeboats in the country.

Lifeboat designer David Stogdon and Dutch boatbuilder Arie de Waart were introduced to Prince Charles and Camilla.
