The US Department of Agriculture's (USDA) National Institute of Food and Agriculture (NIFA) announced $1.2 million (€1.1 million) in available funding for aquaculture research projects in the areas of genetics, disease, production systems, and economics.

Funding is made through NIFA’s Aquaculture Research Competitive Grants Program, which supports "development of an environmentally and economically sustainable US aquaculture industry," USDA said.

Results of projects supported by this program are intended to help improve the profitability of the US aquaculture industry, reduce the US trade deficit, increase domestic food security, provide markets for US-produced products, increase domestic aquaculture business investment opportunities, and provide more jobs for rural and coastal America.
