Icelandic fishing company Vestmannaeyjum (VSV) inaugurated its new pelagic production facility earlier this month.

VSV invested a total of ISK 1.3 billion (€10.5 million/$11.4 million) in the new facility, Gudmundur Örn Gunnarsson, chairman of the company, said during the official opening ceremony.

The plant is equipped with blast-freezing technology rather than plate freezing, which is the usual method in Iceland.

VSV's management looked into the way production has changed in Norway, where blast-freezing is the usual method for pelagic production, and the Asian market that is prepared to pay higher prices for blast-frozen fish.
