Steve Norton, chief executive of Grimsby Fish Merchants’ Association, said he was “surprised, like many” by the Court of Appeal judgment in favor of British Seafood.
He said the industry knows there will be another appeal but in the meantime the situation was “a mess” and the industry was “in a vacuum.”
“In the long term this would mean the end of Seafish if they lose the next appeal,” he said.
Norton sits on Seafish’s Food Legislation Experts group and said the group does some “superb work” and that the authority in general does a lot of good work for the industry.
