Sysco Speciality Group, the UK arm of US foodservice giant Sysco, is planning to close all the distribution sites of M&J Seafood in the United Kingdom apart from its central production unit in Bicester, Oxfordshire, a spokesperson confirmed to IntraFish.
"As part of an extensive, strategic review of M&J Seafood’s business, we can confirm that we have entered into consultation with colleagues at M&J sites in the UK," said the spokesperson.
"Unfortunately, the proposed closures are the result of the impact that Brexit and the COVID-19 pandemic have had on the foodservice industry, and the fact that the resulting pressure on the labor and supply chain markets is unlikely to ease in the foreseeable future."
