HEIPLOEG Shellfish International (HSI) of Zoutkamp in the Netherlands, has split its shrimp and molluscan shellfish divisions, selling the latter to Simon Lenger, formerly CEO. 'The synergy between the two sides of the business has not been sufficient, ' says Mr Lenger, 'and I am from the shellfish side.' The shellfish division will operate under the name of 'The Shellfish Group' and will continue the fishing, processing and wholesaling of bivalve species (such as mussels, cockles, whelks, carpetshell clams, etc) carried out by HIS.

It produces a wide range of preserved ö marinated in jars and cans ö and frozen products which are exported around the world. 'The range of products remains the same, ' Mr Lenger says.
