Nearly $130 billion in seafood is traded globally every year. That means hundreds of millions of tons of fish and shellfish plucked from waters on one side of the world routinely end up on dinner plates thousands of miles and several time zones away.

As with any global industry, seafood has its share of superpower nations that produce not only large volumes of fish and shellfish, but are also known for their expertise in supplying specific species, such as shrimp, salmon or tilapia.
