Spain's largest supermarket chain, Mercadona, sells more than 300 tonnes of Namibian-caught sea-frozen hake every month. All of this fish is supplied by Mascato, an international marketing company with branches in Chile, Spain and Namibia.

In the past, Mascato imported Namibian hake in wholesale packs and outsourced the re-processing and packaging of its hake retail products to a number of different factories in Spain.

However, following the successful completion of its new processing plant in Walvis Bay in October 2003, the company is in a position to source all of its hake requirements from its Namibian facility.
