Seafood shoppers in the United Kingdom are starting to branch out and are creating soaring demand for more unusual fish species such as swordfish and monkfish tail, according to Tesco.
The change in fish shopping habits at Tesco is also manifesting in a rise in sales of megrim, grey mullet and brill.
Typically UK consumers are not very adventurous when it comes to buying fish, sticking to species such as cod, plaice and haddock.
The increase is a result of a scheme by the retailer to train staff on its 650 fish counters across the country to help shoppers discover alternative varieties of great tasting fish.
