SeaFare Pacific's salmon chowder from Oregon Seafoods nabbed the People's Choice Award -- by one vote -- at the Symphony of Seafood Seattle event Wednesday.

The awards, organized by the Alaska Fisheries Development Foundation (AFDF), had 18 entires in categories such as retail, foodservice, Beyond the Egg and Beyond the Plate.

Oregon Seafoods' chowder consisted of chinook, sockeye and coho salmon, potatoes and celery in a tomato broth.

"Developing these new products is risky," AFDF's Julie Decker said at the event, adding that product development from one company helps the whole industry.
