Oregon Seafoods' chowder wins Symphony of Seafood People's Choice
The chowder was up against products from Trident and Orca Bay.
SeaFare Pacific's salmon chowder from Oregon Seafoods nabbed the People's Choice Award -- by one vote -- at the Symphony of Seafood Seattle event Wednesday.
The awards, organized by the Alaska Fisheries Development Foundation (AFDF), had 18 entires in categories such as retail, foodservice, Beyond the Egg and Beyond the Plate.
Oregon Seafoods' chowder consisted of chinook, sockeye and coho salmon, potatoes and celery in a tomato broth.
"Developing these new products is risky," AFDF's Julie Decker said at the event, adding that product development from one company helps the whole industry. "A rising tide floats all boats."
The Juneau People's Choice award is scheduled for Feb. 22, when the judges' choices in each category will be announced, as well. The winners are given airfare and booth space at Seafood Expo North America in Boston.
