Native Alaskan-owned Maniilaq Services is seeing interest in wild keta salmon produced under its Arctic Circle Wild Salmon brand, following a listing with retail giant Walmart.
The group first caught the attention of Walmart and Sam’s Club at a US manufacturing supplier summit event in June.
“We made our presentation and it was understood right away that Walmart had an interest in sourcing fresh Alaskan seafood,” Maniilaq Seafood Marketing and Sales Director Everette Anderson told IntraFish.
Walmart/Sam’s Club and the Alaska Seafood Marketing Institute (ASMI) took their relationship to the next level this summer, which Anderson said helped Maniilaq and other Alaskan seafood suppliers.
