From the recently required Turtle Excluder Devices (TEDs) to increased testing following the BP Deepwater Horizon oil spill, gulf shrimp is under higher scrutiny than imported shrimp.
This makes for an uneven playing field in the marketplace, according to several gulf shrimp experts.
However, many are hoping for further change after the release of a scathing new report on the cover of BloombergBusinessweek, whichclaimed huge volumes of antibiotics are being used in farmed shrimp, and suggested the prevalence may pose a threat to human health.
