Marie Christine Monfort describes how product innovation, communication and promotion in France are encouraging consumers to buy more seafood products
Several new species have been approved to display the prestigious Label Rouge food quality label. Joining the select seafood group are: farmed turbot produced by France Turbot and by Societe Aquacole de l'ile de Re, farmed seabass from Cannes Aquaculture, and wild scallops (Pecten maximus) landed by member fishermen of the Normandie Fraicheur Mer (west coast) association.
This superior quality label, monitored by the French Ministry of Agriculture, means a lot to French consumers and it is also recognised as a guarantee of top quality food in Belgium and Switzerland.
