As the world gathers in Rio de Janeiro for the Olympic Games, chefs from 55 nations are fine-tuning dishes for the 116-year-old Culinary Olympics, held in Germany in October.

The Culinary Olympics were started with just four countries "to present to other cultures and nations the German cuisine and to learn from others, too," said event Press Officer Jennifer Zimmermann.

"We've grown quite a bit," she told IntraFish -- and the seafood representation at the event has grown significantly.

There are three main categories -- cold, which is all about presentation; hot, which is the main contest and is judged on the presentation and taste of a three-course menu; and, lastly, there is a dessert contest portion.
