There are lots of fast casual seafood chains in the United States specializing in burgers, sandwiches or tacos — but Brazilian food? Not so much.

It’s that uniqueness that popular Brazil-based fast food joint Giraffas hopes to bring when expanding in the United States — going from 8 units in the South Florida area currently to 140 around the country in the next six years.

Rene Prats, who joined Giraffas USA as president and CEO in mid-February, said he spent a month and a half studying the concept and made about 90 restaurant visits before accepting the job — and the quality of the 34-year-old chain’s products and that uniqueness is what prompted him to join the team.
