What started out as a student project at the University of California, Santa Barbara (UCSB), two years ago is now garnering attention from seafood chefs and retailers around the United States and beyond.
Former UCSB Bren School of Environmental Science & Management master’s degree students Laura Johnson and Norah Eddy dreamed up Salty Girl Seafood when they were assigned a project focused “on creating a business that solves a customer problem but also an environmental problem,” Johnson told Seafood International. Both women had experience in fisheries and were interested in working to solve issues related to overfishing and seafood mislabeling.
