The early mortality syndrome (EMS) disease has been ravaging through Asia, spreading from farms in south China in 2010 on to Vietnam (2010), Malaysia (2011) and Thailand (2012).
The consequences are dire for both producers and buyers, who bemoan skyrocketing prices and consequently lower demand.
