PANAMA TUNA - the world's biggest tuna purse seiner at 116 metres long - is setting off to the waters around Papua New Guinea to start her fishing career.
She has been built for Albacora SA of Madrid by the Barreras shipyard of Vigo, Spain. Her owner sailed her to the Canary Islands, where Panama Tuna collected her 300 metre deep purse seine, before heading for the tropics following her successful sea trials off the Vigo coast.
She is the latest in a line of ever-larger tuna seiners from the Barreras yard which has won a reputation over several decades as a specialist builder of this type of ship.
