It’s an unwieldy name, the Ministerial Conference on Fisheries Co-operation among African States Bordering the Atlantic Ocean, ATLAFCO for short.

According to Mike Akyeampong, of the Ghanaian Ministry of Food and Agriculture, ATLAFCO has been in existence for some time, but after a few years of dormancy has been revitalized.

It’s an organization covering a very long coastline, stretching from Tangier to Namibia’s southern border and taking in 22 nations, all with their own policies and with shared stocks that stretch across and migrate past borders.
