It hasn’t been a completely smooth process, but the results have been welcomed as the new ice plant can deliver flake ice either into tubs on one side or via a pneumatic system on the other that blows ice through a hose to wherever it is needed.

 

German company KTI supplied the hardware, with local contractors GT Refrigeration and food industry construction specialist ProjectLink as partners in the project.

 

According to Pierre Brisset of KTI, who spent twenty years working for icemaker manufacturer Geneglace, and who was key to designing the system, there were plenty of compromises along the way on both sides.

 

He explained that the original request was for a manual system, but it quickly became apparent that the fishermen wanted something with more automation that the old-fashioned method of shovelling ice.
