The harbour at Vigo is lined with shipyards that started life building for the Spanish fishing fleet, before expanding into exports and other craft, but these days a new fishing vessel from a Spanish yard is a rarity.
Then there were yards in the Baltic that did refits, supplied completed hulls to be fitted out elsewhere and also finished new vessels. While a handful of European yards have stayed firmly with fishing as the mainstay of their business, most have been forced to diversify into other sectors as well as cutting costs by completing hulls built in lower cost countries.
There
