TWO NORTH east of Scotland trawlers were badly damaged during severe storms off Rockall and in the North Sea last weekend.

Audacious II was crippled while fishing at Rockall and was being towed to Denmark for repair this week, while Ocean Bounty had wheelhouse windows smashed in the North Sea.

Audacious II, a 34m long stern trawler built at Karstensens' Shipyard last year, was hit by a huge wave on Saturday which smashed her wheelhouse windows and knocked out the electrics, leaving the trawler taking in water in the Atlantic in "absolutely atrocious" Force 11 conditions 40 miles from Rockall.
