I HEAR that fishing companies in New Zealand, South Africa and other countries are showing interest in transferring their catches from trawl codend to fish hold by ETI of the USA's Silkstream pump.

ETI (Environmental Technologies Inc.) of Auburn, Washington, is delivering a Silkstream pump to Sealord of New Zealand to be used on one of its big trawlers for pumping hoki this season.

The US manufacturer of these "damage-free" fish transfer pumps, which are already widely used in many countries to pump live fish in farms, tells me that there is particularly strong interest in pumping fragile fish such as hoki, hake and whiting on board trawlers.
