THE FIVE-man crew of Sovereign BF 380 were winched to safety early morning on Sunday 18 December after the 26m trawler ran aground at high water on rocks at Cairnbulg Point, two miles east of Fraserburgh, writes David Linkie.

Twin rig Sovereign was returning to Fraserburgh after completing an oil job when the incident occurred.

With a heavy swell still running following a northerly gale, Fraserburgh lifeboat was unable to get alongside her to take the crew off.

Rescue helicopter 137 from RAF Lossiemouth was scrambled before winching the men to safety and landing them at Cairnbulg.
