Trammel nets are on the increase and more Westcountry fishermen are turning away from using single panel nets - "but only in safe areas where damage is minimal, " says Dave Barrett, owner of South East Netting, the largest UK importer and supplier of monofilament nets, writes Phil Lockley.
While trammel nets are a regular choice in the eastern Channel, Thames estuary and east coast, many South West fishermen are now also switching from their traditional use of single panel gill nets to increase their catch rate.
