After one of the most gale-swept autumns for many years, Phil Lockley recalls the severe Ash Wednesday and Fastnet storms off the South West in 1962 and 1979.
Almost two years ago, South West newspapers, local radio stations, and television weathermen warned of a terrible storm ahead.
A strong spring tide coupled with heavy rainfall and a gale-force south easterly wind was a recipe for disaster.
I travelled to Newlyn to see that storm for myself. Using an underwater camera I was able to capture some sort of footage.
