MANY new fishing vessels built in Spain and elsewhere are being fitted with pumps made by Bombas Azcue SA of Zumaia, Spain.

The company's Ricardo Azcue tells FNI that its biggest new ship contracts can involve supplying some 60 big pumps to tuna superseiners, such as those built at Astillero Barreras in Vigo.

Between 26 and 30 pumps are needed for the ship's brine circulation and transfer duties alone, while other pumps are required for ballast, general services such as bilge and deck wash, firefighting, fuel oil supply transfer and pumping the refrigerant to the freezing systems.
