SKIPPER Craig Duffy (26) of Tarbert, Argyll, died in the Western Isles hospital on Sunday ten hours after the 17 metre twin-rig trawler Audacious (SY 364) sank suddenly a quarter of a mile south of Arnish Point.
Her sinking happened shortly after she had left Stornoway Harbour just after 06.00hrs.
Audacious went down very quickly close to the shore in moderate to good sea conditions. Her crew just managing to broadcast a Mayday, which was immediately picked up by Stornoway Coastguard.
Stornoway lifeboat, the Coastguard rescue helicopter and several local fishing boats were on the scene within minutes.
