The scallop industry is preparing for the possibility of more scallops for the next few years, but executives said not to get too excited about the projected landings because they are just that -- estimated projections.
The New England Fishery Management Council (NEFMC) set the allocations for the next fishing season last week as well as projected an increase for the scallop fishery biomass for the coming years.
"We are obviously pleased to see the increase projected landings but it is only a projection not a hard quota, therefore it could be more or it could be less only time will tell," said Jeff Davis, CEO of scallop firm Blue Harvest Fisheries.
