Russia’s Association of the Far Eastern Crab Catchers (AFECC) has successfully passed the preliminary Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) assessment.

Three types of crab off West Kamchatka -- red king crab, blue king crab and Bairdi -- are part of the certification.

Evaluation against the MSC certification was conducted by certifier Marine Certification between December 2015 and June 2016.

"The preliminary MSC assessment included large-scale analysis of documentary information, as well as consultations with Kamchatka-based Research Institute of Fisheries and Oceanography KamchatNIRO, WWF, Russian fishery agency Rosrybolovstvo and representatives of the Russian mass media", Alexander Duplyakov, head of the AFECC told IntraFish.
