Russia's largest cod and haddock fishing firms operating in the Barents Sea inked an agreement to reduce the impact of bottom trawl fishing on the ecosystems of the Barents and Norwegian Seas.
Companies signing up to the deal include the Fishermen Union of the North, Ocean Trawler parent Norebo, F.E.S.T. company and JSC Arkhangelsk Trawl Fleet, according to WWF Russia.
"For the first time in Russia the key fishing companies announced their willingness to jointly preserve the ecosystems of the Barents and Norwegian Seas," WWF said.
