AFTER nearly 33 years of distinguished service with the RNLI Thurso lifeboat coxwain Billy Farquhar (55) handed over the helm to his second in command William Munro.
Mr Farquhar received the RNLI's vellum certificate of thanks for the role his command played in assisting the trawler Arctic Crusader after she had broken adrift from her moorings at Scrabster and was in danger of being swept on to the beach in a NW storm.
His first call out in 1969 was the most tragic as he and his crewmates had the task of towing to Scrabster the Longhope lifeboat after she had overturned with the loss of all her eight crew on call from her base at Hoy.
