The 70m midwater trawler Research LK 62 is now fishing North Sea herring - the first of five new pelagic vessels at various stages of construction for Shetland partnerships.
Research is the first of four midwater trawlers designed by Skipsteknisk of Aalesund being built by Flekkefjord Slipp and Maskinfabrikk for partnerships based on the small island of Whalsay, which for generations has relied heavily on fishing.
Davie Hutchison is scheduled to take delivery of the almost identical Charisma in October. The yard will then complete the fitting out of the 61m boats Adenia and Antarctic for partnerships headed by George William Anderson and John William Stewart.
