Pacifical, the Parties to the Nauru Agreement (PNA) and the Pacific Small Island Developing States (PSIDS) gathered Tuesday to celebrate World Tuna Day at the UN headquarters in New York.

It was first celebrated in Papua New Guinea in 2011 and last year the UN ratified May 2 as World Tuna Day.

UN General Assembly President and Ambassador Peter Thomson, PNA Commercial Manager Maurice Brownjohn OBE, Pacifical Managing Director Henk Brus and other ambassadors and representatives from several countries were present.

"On this day each year the people of the PNA, in the region where the occasion was first established, have marked the importance of tuna to their economy.
