SCOTTISH pelagic processors could soon link up with an electronic auction run by the Norwegian Fish Sales Association, Norge Sildeslag, in a development which could increase the market pull of the Scottish firms and boost prices for species like herring and mackerel, reports Peter Johnson .
The Norwegian association met the Scottish Pelagic Fishermen's Association recently and is consulting the Scottish Fishermen's Organisation, The Shetland FPO, the Herring Buyers Association and Shetland Seafood Auctions among others.
UK vessels already sell their fish through the Norwegian auction when landing to Norway - the next step is to bring the British factories into the electronic system, enabling them to bid for catches on an equal footing with the Scandinavian factories.
