Alaska, October 20. Two fishermen were killed and another injured when the fishing vessel Ocean Challenger capsized south of the Alaskan peninsula. Two of the bodies have been found, but the US Coast Guard called off the search for the third crewmen, Steve Esparza of Kodiak, Alaska. The Coast Guard had scoured 1730 sq. miles in the North Pacific over two days. Petty officer Sara Francis says: "The chances of finding someone alive in these kinds of water temperatures after 24 hours is extremely low. After 48 hours that chance drastically reduces." The Coast Guard does not know what caused Ocean Challenger to capsize and sink. Survivor Kevin Ferrell of Lynchburg, Va, was saved by a rescue swimmer and hoisted to safety by helicopter. The Coast Guard says that he was the only crewman to be wearing a survival suit. The final missing crewman, Stephen Esparza of Kodiak, Alaska, was not wearing a survival suit.
