Northern Ireland fish selling agency and former fisherman Robert David Orr has died. Born in 1917, he started fishing on his father’s boat Essie when he was 13 years old. Following the sale of Essie, another boat, built in Arklow, was bought by John and Tommy Orr, named Essie Orr.

Robert continued to fish on this boat for many years. He made many friends in Ardglass, Kilkeel and in Maryport and Whitehaven in Cumbria.

When Essie Orr was sold, Robert left the fishing industry and became the manager of a local fish selling firm.
