HEMNESTRAL, a steel stern trawler with a long association in fisheries research in New Zealand, was recently auctioned for $NZ255,000 in Wellington. The unnamed buyer from the Cook Islands was one of five bidders.

The 28 metre vessel, which has been laid up since last December, will work in the Islands' commercial industry. She was built in 1962 at the Aukra Bruk shipyard in Norway and was then bought by the New Zealand government when she was renamed WJ Scott and used for research duties.
