The Advisory Panel of the North Pacific Fishery Management Council (NPFMC) is recommending a Total Allowable Catch (TAC) of 1.345 million metric tons for the 2017 Alaska Bering Sea Pollock fishery, according to a source at the NPFMC meeting -- this would be an increase of 5,000 metric tons over this year's TAC.

The recommendation is expected to go before the full council on Sunday for approval.

The Scientific and Statistical Committee (SSC) SSC determines the biologically acceptable catch limit (ABC) and the council will set the TAC at or below those values within the groundfish Optimum Yield Limit of 2 million metric tons.
