Although headed and gutted (H&G) cod production is far more lucrative for the Norwegian fishing fleet, demand for frozen-at-sea (FAS) fillets in the United Kingdom is growing, and some suppliers are taking note.
“There’s room for much, much more," Norwegian Seafood Council (NSC) delegate Jack-Robert Moller told IntraFish sister publication Fiskeribladet.
"England buys 80 percent frozen fillets and that likely consists of frozen-at-sea fillets from, for example, the Faroe Islands, Norway and Norwegian exporters.
