The new plant is significantly more modern and sophisticated than the one it replaces, and for the moment Newlyn has two ice plants side-by-side as the old plant dating back to the 1990s is still in operation.

 

Pierre Brisset of German company KTI-Plersch said that the installation has taken longer than had been expected and there have been a few difficulties along the way, but the plant is now ready.

 

The same partnership of KTI-Plersch, GT Refrigeration and food industry construction specialist ProjectLink last year completed a smaller ice plant on the quayside at Padstow under some awkward circumstances as the limited space available there demanded that the plant needed to be largely custom built.

 

Daniel Tonkin has been taken on by the Cornish Ice Company to manage the plant and he commented that he has an engineering background in the Royal Navy and ashore, and now he is managing the new plant while keeping the old plant going...
